• Keskienglannista, substantiivin flower (← anglonormannin ja muinaisranskan flur, flor ← latinan akkusatiivi florem substantiivista flos, "kukka") erikoismerkitys ("hienoin vehnäjauho", ranskan fleur de farine, fine fleur). Vrt. hollannin vastaava bloem.
