Apaxco é un concello do norte do Estado de México, en México. Limita ao norte co estado de Hidalgo, ao sur co Tequixquiac, ao leste co Hueypoxtla e ó oeste co estado de Hidalgo (concello de Atotonilco de Tula). Abrangue unha superficie de 75.73 km², e a súa poboación era de 27.521 habitantes no ano 2010.[1] A cabeceira municipal é Apaxco de Ocampo, a segunda poboación é Santa María Apaxco.[2]

Apaxco identifícase co o nome na lingua náhuatl de Apatzco (cfr. náhuatl actual Atl, (auga), o verbo patzca (espremer), e o sufixo de lugar -co). O seu actual nome provén do náhuatl ou mexicano, o que significa 'lugar onde as augas escorren'.[3]
En 1152, os aztecas no camiño até o Val de México, procedentes de Tula Xicocotitlan deciden establecerse eles en Apaxco por un curto período de tempo celebráronse o fogo novo.[4][5]
