Descrizione

Al pari delle precedenti pubblicazioni anche Transitus è un doppio concept album, la cui storia è tuttavia slegata da quella principale: essa infatti è ambientata nel XIX secolo e ha come protagonisti due amanti, Daniel ed Abby, con un tema che fonde fantascienza e storie di fantasmi in chiave gotica.^[2] Riguardo a questo cambiamento, Arjen Anthony Lucassen ha spiegato:^[2]

«Stavo cercando un vero narratore con una voce matura, profonda e calda. Da bambino, ero un grande fan di Doctor Who e il mio dottore preferito era Tom Baker. Non potevo credere alla mia fortuna quando ha accettato di partecipare! Siamo andati nel Regno Unito per registrarlo ed è stata una di quelle esperienze indimenticabili. Quando ho iniziato non avevo idea che mi ci sarebbe voluto così tanto! Ci sono voluti circa tre anni dall'inizio alla fine e mi ha spinto fuori dalla mia zona di comfort musicalmente e creativamente. Ma ho sempre bisogno di quella sfida. Più è difficile, più mi diverto a lavorarci! Questo è senza dubbio l'album più cinematografico e stravagante che abbia mai fatto.»

Alla realizzazione del disco hanno preso parte svariati cantanti e musicisti, tra cui Dee Snider, Joe Satriani, Simone Simons e Tommy Karevik.
