III型PKSとしては、カルコン合成酵素(CHS)が代表的であるが、ウコン中でクルクミンが作られる時に働く酵素は、DCS(英:diketide CoA synthase;ジケチドCoA生合成酵素)と、CURS(英:curcumin synthease;クルクミン生合成酵素)の2種類の酵素が働いて、クルクミンを作っている可能性が高いことが報告されている(なお、通常のマロニルCoAを伸張物質とするIII型PKSと違い、CURSはマロニルCoAではない物質(フェルロイルCoA)を付加する珍しい酵素である)。
