セントラルワシントン大学の起源は、1891年に現在キャンパスのあるエレンズバーグ市に4年制教育機関として認可される。後に、セントラルワシントン教育大学、セントラルワシントン州立大学となり、そして現在の「セントラルワシントン大学」となる。
