മാഗ്പൈ

മാഗ്പീ കൊർവിദെ (crow) കുടുംബത്തിലെ പക്ഷികൾ ആണ്. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ബുദ്ധിയുള്ള ജീവികളിലൊന്നായി യൂറേഷ്യൻ മാഗ്പിയെ വ്യാപകമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.^[1][2][3] ഒരു മിറർ ടെസ്റ്റിൽ സ്വയം തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ കഴിവുള്ള ഒരേയൊരു nonmammal സ്പീഷീസാണിത്.^[4] (ഭീമൻ ചെകുത്താൻതിരണ്ടിക്ക് അവയുടെ സ്വന്തം പ്രതിഫലനങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ കഴിയുന്നതായി ഒരു സമീപകാല പഠനം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.) ^[5]). പിക എന്ന ജനുസ്സിലെ അംഗങ്ങൾക്ക് പുറമേ കോർവിഡ്സ് സിസ (Cissa (genus)) ജീനസാണെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.

സ്വീഡനിൽ മരച്ചില്ലയിൽ വിശ്രമിക്കുന്ന മാഗ്പീ (2016)

യൂറോപ്പ്, ഏഷ്യ, പടിഞ്ഞാറ് അമേരിക്ക എന്നീ മിതോഷ്ണപ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ പിക ജീനസിലുള്ള മാഗ്പീ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ടിബറ്റിലും ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ലഡാക്കിലും (കാർഗിൽ, ലെഹ്), പാകിസ്താൻ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലും ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. കിഴക്കൻ ഏഷ്യയിലും ഐബെറിയൻ പെനിൻസുലയിലും സയനോപിക ജീനസിൽപ്പെട്ട മാഗ്പീ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിൽ മാഗ്പീ എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പക്ഷികൾ ലോകത്തിന്റെ മറ്റു ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഉള്ള മഗ്പിയുമായി യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ല. • The black magpie, Platysmurus leucopterus, is a treepie; it is neither a magpie nor, as was long believed, a jay. Treepies are a distinct group of corvids externally similar to magpies.
• The Australian magpie, Gymnorhina tibicen, is conspicuously piebald, with black and white plumage reminiscent of a European magpie. It is a member of the family Artamidae and not a corvid.
