Alan Barnes (fødd 23. juli 1959) er ein engelsk jazz-saksofonist og klarinettist.[1]
I 1980 spelte han med The Midnight Follies Orchestra og året etter var han med Pasadena Roof Orchestra, som turnerte i Europa fram til 1983. Det året slutta han og vart med i hardbop-bandet til Tommy Chase, der han gjorde seg kjend i det britiske jazzmiljøet for første gongen. Han slutta å spele for Chase i 1986 for å dels leie The Jazz Renegades i lag med rocketrommeslagaren Steve White. Dei spelte fire album i lag.
I 1985 spelte han inn det første albumet sitt som leiar i lag med Tommy Whittle – Straight Eight og som leiar av sin eigen kvartett i 1987 - Affiliation med pianisten David Newton. I 1988 tok han over for Bruce Turner i bandet til Humphrey Lyttelton, der han var fram til 1992. Mello 1987 og 1997 leia han òg Pizza Express Modern Jazz Sextet i lag med Gerard Presencer og Dave O’Higgins. Etter han slutta i Humphrey Lyttelton band, var han stort sett frilansar.
I 1999 turnerte han i Amerika og Europa med bandet til Bryan Ferry, før han vende attende til USA i 2000 for å spele i lag med Warren Vache. I 2001 fekk han BBC Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year. Dei neste ti åra spelte han fast med BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestra. Barnes har òg vore studiomusikar på albumet av Selina Jones, Björk, Van Morrison, Bryan Ferry og har spelt musikk for film, fjernsyn og reklamar.[2]
