Struktur

Det hamrande gitarriffet vart spelt av Page gjennom ein liten Supro-forsterkar, og han køyrte Fender Telecasteren sin gjennom ein lukka Vox wah-wah-pedal for å skape ein «gitar i ein skoboks»-stil på soloen. «Communication Breakdown» er òg ein av få songar der Page song korvokal.

Konsertversjonar

Songen vart mykje spela på konsertane til Led Zeppelin, og er den einaste songen som er spela på kvar einaste turne av bandet. Han vart vanlegvis anten spela som første song eller som eit ekstranummer.

Innspelingar

I USa vart songen gjeven ut som B-side til singelen «Good Times Bad Times».

På Led Zeppelin BBC Sessions frå 1997 var songen med tre gonger, kvar gong med ei forskjellige improvisering av musikarane. To live-innspelingar for fjernsynsprogrammet Tous En Scene i Paris i 1969 og i the Royal Albert Hall i 1970 finst på Led Zeppelin DVD. «Communication Breakdown» er ein av få Zeppelin-songar som bandet gjorde ein video for. Denne finst òg på Led Zeppelin DVD.

Ettermæle

Bassist i Dictators, Andy Shernoff har sagt at det raske gitarriffet på –Communication Breakdown var ein inspirasjon for stilen til The Ramones-gitarist Johnny Ramone.^[3] Ramone sa i dokumentaren "Ramones:The True Story" at han øvde på denne stilen med å spele denne songen om att og om att.^[4]
