Howard Roberts

Howard Roberts (2. oktober 1929–28. juni 1992) var ein USA-amerikansk jazzgitarist, lærar og studiomusikar.^[1]

Biografi

Roberts vart fødd i Phoenix i Arizona, og byrja å spela gitar som åtteåring. Då han var femten hadde han byrja å spela profesjonelt lokalt.^[2][2]

I 1950 flytta han til Los Angeles i California. Med hjelp frå Jack Marshall byrja han å arbeide med musikarar, arrangørar og låtskrivarar, som Neal Hefti, Henry Mancini, Bobby Troup, Chico Hamilton, George Van Eps og Barney Kessel. Kring 1956 signerte Bobby Troup han til Verve Records som soloartist. På den tida byrja han å konsentrere seg om studioarbeid, både som soloartist og som musikar i 'Wrecking Crew', ei retning han følgde inn i 1970-åra.

Roberts spelte rytmegitar, sologitar, bass og mandolin. Han var kjend for å bruke ein Gibson L-5-gitar i studio og på fjernsyn- og filmprosjekt, inkludert sologitar på kjenningsmelodien til The Twilight Zone, og akustisk og elektrisk gitar på The Munsters, Bonanza, The Brady Bunch, Green Acres, Get Smart, Batman, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Peter Gunn, Johnny Quest, Gidget, Mannix, Lost in Space, Dragnet, Wild Wild West, Mission Impossible, The Odd Couple, Dick Van Dyke, I Dream of Jeannie og kjenningsmelodien til filmklassikaren Bullitt.

Roberts spelte med artistar som Georgie Auld, Peggy Lee (på «Fever»), Eddie Cochran («Sittin' in the Balcony»), Bobby Day («Rockin Robin»), Jody Reynolds («Endless Sleep»), Shelley Fabares («Johnny Angel»), Dean Martin («Houston»), The Monkees, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins og The Electric Prunes.

Som medlem av 'Wrecking Crew' spelte Roberts som ein del av Phil Spector sin «Wall of Sound», og spelte gitar på somme av dei mest kjende popsongane i musikkhistoria.

Roberts døydde av prostatakreft 28. juni 1992.
