Kaesŏng (Gaeseong; Korean pronunciation: [kɛsɔŋ]) is a ceety in the province o Hwanghaebuk-do, soothren North Korea (DPRK), a umwhile Directly Governed Ceety, an the caipital o Korea durin the Koryo Dynasty. The ceety is near Kaesŏng Industrial Region an it contains the remains o the Manwoldae palace. It wis formally named Songdo while it wis the auncient caipital o Koryo. It prospered as a tred centre that produced Korean ginseng, which is famous internaitionally. It is nou the DPRK's licht industry centre. It haes a population o 308,440 as o 2008.[1]
