The arrondissement of Annecy is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Haute-Savoie département, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its capital, and the prefecture of the department, is the city of Annecy.

History

When the Haute-Savoie department was created in 1860, the arrondissement of Annecy was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Annecy is bordered to the northwest by the arrondissement of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, to the northeast by the arrondissement of Bonneville, and to the south by the Savoie department.

It is the most southern arrondissement of the department and is the second largest arrondissement with an area of 1,261.6 km2 (487.1 sq mi),[3] but the first in population, with 276,382 inhabitants and a density of 219.1 inhabitants/km².[4]
