Volvox, Volvocaceae familyasına bağlı polifiletik bir yeşil algae cinsidir.[1][2] Tek hücreli bir algin bölünmesi ile oluşur.[3] Yaklaşık 200 milyon yıl önce oluştuğu tahmin edilmektedir.[3]
