Travis nació col nome de Randy Bruce Trawick en Marshville, Carolina del Norte,[3] siendo'l segundu de seis hermanos.
Empezó actuando a los ocho años d'edá al pie del so hermanu Ricky. Randy fuxó a Charlotte a los dieciséis años y empezó a actuar nun chigre. Travis siguió metiéndose en problemes llegales, finalmente un xuez díxo-y que si yera vistu otra vegada, diría a prisión mientres un llargu tiempu. Dos años en ringlera, gana'l Premiu Grammy pa la meyor voz masculina del país (U.S.A), pol álbum Always And Forever en 1988, y Old 8 x 10 en 1989. En 1992, sicasí, Travis nun tuvo enforma tiempu na llista de los más vendíos mientres enforma tiempu como Clint Black, Garth Brooks y otros qu'habíen coyíu tao sobre Nashville. Volvió más tarde col so álbum de 1994 This Is Me (ésti soi yo) y el so esitosu single Whisper My Name (bisbisa'l mio nome). En 2000 salió a la lluz el so álbum Inspirational Journey, una coleición de cantares relixosos, y en 2003 Worship y Faith. El so álbum más recién ye Around the Bend, llanzáu en 2008.
