Shchekino (Russian: Щёкино), also romanized Shchyokino, is a town and the administrative center of Shchyokinsky District in Tula Oblast, Russia, located on the Moscow—Simferopol highway (M2), 25 kilometers (16 mi) south of Tula, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 58,139 (2010 Russian census);[3] 61,588 (2002 Census);[9] 69,251 (1989 Soviet census);[10] 72,000 (1977).
