Alpha Phi sorority was established at Syracuse University in 1872.[1] Called a women's fraternity when it was created, it was the fourth Greek-letter organization for women.

  1. Chapter went dormant in 1950 because of the college's anti-sorority policies.
  2. The third chapter's founders selected the Greek letter Eta as its name. At the next national convention in 1884, Alpha Chi decided to name its chapters alphabetically moving forward. However, Eta chapter was allowed to keep its name, even though it was the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet.
