Etymology 1
From Proto-Finnic *lauladak. Cognate with Estonian laulma, Võro laulma, Northern Sami lávlut. Possibly ultimately onomatopoeic, as sounds like tra-la-la, "la-la" or similar are associated with singing in many languages.
