Usage notes
This character, along with 繧 and 繝 often appear as a result of 文字化け (mojibake), as the hiragana and katakana corrupt to them when mojibake occurs going from UTF-8 to Shift-JIS. As such, they frequently appear in works where mojibake is used for artistic effect.
