പ്ലാറ്റിപസ് ഒരു അർദ്ധ - ജലസസ്തനി ആണ്. താസ്മാനിയ ഉൾപ്പെടെ പൂർവ‌ ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിൽ കണ്ടുവരുന്നു. പ്രസവിക്കുന്നതിനുപകരം മുട്ടയിടുന്ന രണ്ട് സസ്തനികളിലൊന്നാണ്‌ (മറ്റേത് എക്കിഡ്ന) പ്ലാറ്റിപസ്(അറബി:خلد الماء ഹുൽദുൽമാ റൂസി:утконос ഉത്കനൊസ്).
