Seljord kommune er ein kommune i Telemark fylke. Kommunen ligg sentralt i fylket og grensar i aust til Bø og Notodden, i nord til Tinn og Hjartdal, i vest til Tokke og Vinje, og i sør til Kviteseid.

Kommunegrensene har vore endra to gonger, fyrst i 1873 då eit mindre område vart ført over frå Kviteseid, seinare i 1883 då eit mindre område vart ført over til Bø.
Administrasjonssenteret i Seljord kommune er tettstaden Seljord. Lokalavisa er Vest-Telemark Blad, som kjem ut tre gonger i veka.
Seljord ligg midt i Telemark, omkring Seljordvassdraget og Seljordsvatnet. Fleire dalføre går gjennom kommunen. Flatdal, Åmotsdal og Kivledalen møtest ved vestbreidda av Seljordsvatnet, der kommunesenteret Seljord ligg. Mellom dalane ligg fjellet Skorve på 1370 moh.
Busetnaden i kommunen er samla i og ved tettstaden Seljord og i fjelldalen Åmotsdal. Lengst nord ligg eit landskapsvernområde, Brattefjell-Vindeggen, som òg strekkjer seg inn i kommunane Vinje, Tinn og Hjartdal. Det høgste punktet i Seljord kommune er Brattefjell på 1541 moh.
Seljord har heldt seg som sjølvstendig administrativ eining frå 1837, og kommunegrensene har nå vore stabile i meir enn 100 år. 1. januar 1883 vart ein del av Seljord med 235 innbyggjarar overført til Bø kommune. 11. oktober 1873 vart ein ikkje busett del av Kviteseid kommune ved overført til Seljord.
Namnet Seljord stammar frå trenamnet selje og det norrøne ordet gerði, som tyder inngjerda jordstykke. Ein person frå Seljord blir kalla for seljording.
Jord- og skogbruk har vore viktige næringar i Seljord, og tilhøva for jordbruk har betra seg då vasstanden i Faltsjø vart redusert. Tettstaden Seljord er eit lokalt handelssenter. Av industriell verksemd kan nemnast trevare- og møbelindustri knytt til skogdrifta, attåt noko næringsmiddel- og verkstadindustri.
Europaveg 134 går gjennom kommunen i Flatdal, og går så sørover til tettstaden Seljord der han møter riksveg 36 frå Bø og Grenland, før han held fram vestover. Telemark Bilruter har hovudkontor i Seljord, og driv eit breitt rutenett gjennom heile Telemark og inn i Aust-Agder til Arendal.
Dyrsku'n i Seljord er eit fesjå på telemarksfe som vart arrangert for fyrste gong i 1866. Fesjået har utvikla seg til ein betydeleg handelsmarknad og er i dag det største fesjået i Noreg med rundt 80 000 som besøkjer kvart år. Countryfestivalen i Seljord vart arrangert fyrste gong i 1999 og er også den største av sitt slag i landet. Kvar juli blir Seljordspel arrangert, med skodespel, dans, musikk og kunstutstillingar.
Granvin kulturhus i Seljord er det regionale kulturhuset for Vest-Telemark. Det er to museum i kommunen. Bileta til Eva Bull Holte blir stilte ut på Eva Bull Holtes Museum og Sjøormmuseet gjev informasjon om historiene om sjøormen som held til i Seljordsvatnet.
I 2010 fekk Seljord kommune prisen Årets nynorskkommune for mellom anna godt språkleg arbeid retta mot born.
Kommunevåpenet vart vedteke av kommunen 27. april 1989 og godkjent den 15. september same år. Motivet er på raud botn ein gul sjøorm og spelar på soga om ormen i Seljordsvatnet.
