Arthur Brown

Arthur Wilton Brown (fødd 24. juni 1942)^[1] er ein engelsk rockesongar og låtskrivar, mest kjend for dei ekstravagante framføringane sine og den stundom eksperimentelle musikken sungen med ei mektig operarøyst.

Brown har vore frontmann og songar i fleire grupper, mest kjend The Crazy World of Arthur Brown og Kingdom Come, etterfølgd av ein variert solokarriere, der han har vore knytt til Hawkwind, The Who og Klaus Schulze. Seint i 1960-åra var Crazy World of Arthur Brown så populære at dei delte scene med The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Mothers of Invention, The Doors, The Small Faces og Joe Cocker.^[2]

Han er mest kjend for singelen til The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown frå 1968 kalla «Fire», som gjekk til topps på UK Singles Chart og i Canada, og nådde andreplassen på den amerikanske Billboard Hot 100^[3] i tillegg til at albumet songen kom frå, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown som nådde andreplassen i Storbritannia og sjuandeplassen i USA.^[4] Etter suksessen med «Fire», gav pressa Brown kallenamnet «The God of Hellfire»,^[5] etter linja Brown roper i starten av songen.^[6]

Sjølv om Brown hadde lite kommersiell suksess og aldri gav ut ein annan hit, har han hatt stor innverknad på mange musikarar innan forskjellige sjangrar på grunn av operastemma si, den ville scenepersonlegdommen og han vert rekna som ein pioner innan sjokkrock og progressiv rock og har påverka både elektronisk musikk og heavy metal. I 2005 vann Brown 'Showman of the Year'-prisen frå magasinet Classic Rock.
