Timothy Garton Ash (ur. 12 lipca 1955 w Londynie) – brytyjski historyk, zajmuje się głównie historią Europy po 1945.
Po ukończeniu historii współczesnej na Exeter College Uniwersytetu Oksfordzkiego studiował dzieje współczesnych Niemiec, mieszkając kilka lat w Berlinie i podróżując po krajach bloku wschodniego. Kolejne stopnie naukowe zdobywał na St Antony’s College w Oksfordzie, Wolnym Uniwersytecie Berlina i Uniwersytecie Humboldtów w Berlinie. Obecnie profesor studiów europejskich na Oxford University, fellow na St Antony’s College oraz senior fellow na Stanford University. Jego eseje ukazują się na łamach czasopism: „The New York Review of Books”, „The Guardian”, „The New York Times”, „The Washington Post”, „Prospect”, „The Wall Street Journal”, „The Globe and Mail”. W Polsce jego teksty publikuje „Gazeta Wyborcza”.
Laureat „David Watt Memorial Prize”, „Commentator of the Year” brytyjskiego programu „What the Papers Say”, „Premio Napoli”, „Imre Nagy Memorial Plaque”, „Hoffmann von Fallersleben Prize”, „Orwell Prize”, „Somerset Maugham Award” (za Polska rewolucja: „Solidarność” 1980-1982) i fińskiej nagrody „Kullervo Killinen”. W 2005 r. zaliczony do 100 najważniejszych intelektualistów magazynu „Prospect and Foreign Policy” (2005)[1] oraz 100 najbardziej wpływowych ludzi „Time magazine”. Doctor honoris causa St. Andrew’s University w Szkocji, oraz Katholieke Universiteit Leuven w Belgii.
Kawaler Orderu św. Michała i św. Jerzego, Orderu Zasługi Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, Orderu Zasługi Republiki Federalnej Niemiec oraz Medalu Zasługi Republiki Czeskiej.
Mówi biegle po niemiecku i polsku. Wraz z żoną Danutą (Polką), historykiem sztuki i dwoma synami, Thomasem, studentem filozofii, i Alekiem, studentem anglistyki, mieszkają w Oksfordzie.
