Tomić has spent almost all of his professional playing and coaching career in Greece, after he took Greek nationality, under the name of Milan Giannakopoulos (Greek: Μίλαν Γιαννακόπουλος).[4] During his playing years in Olympiacos, he became an idol among the team's fans. Still considered a legend to Olympiacos fans after his retirement as a player, he took an assistant coach's spot with the team, under then head coach Panagiotis Giannakis.
