Glyph origin

Etymology

Eberhard (1968) thought this and similar words like (OC *poŋ, *poŋs, “mound, tumulus”) were all related and fundamentally meant "hump".

Or from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *brawŋ (wild yak, buffalo) (STEDT, Boodberg 1937, Schuessler, 2007), cognate with Tibetan འབྲོང ('brong, wild yak), Burmese ပြောင် (praung, gaur).
