ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയിഡിന്റെ കൊലപാതകം

അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ കറുത്തവർഗ്ഗകാരനായിരുന്ന ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ്നെ വ്യാജ കറൻസി കൈവശം വച്ചെന്ന കുറ്റമാരോപിച്ച് പോലീസുകാർ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയ സംഭവമാണ് ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കൊലപാതകം എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.^[3][4][5] 2020 മെയ് 25 ന് അമേരിക്കൻ‌ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ മിനസോട്ടയിലെ മിനിയാപോളിസ് നഗരത്തിൽ, വ്യവസായിക കേന്ദ്രത്തിനു തെക്ക് വശത്തുള്ള അയൽ‌പ്രദേശമായ പൗഡർഹോൺ‌ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കൊലപാതകം നടന്നത്. ഡെറെക് ഷോവിൻ എന്ന കുറ്റാരോപിതനായ പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ ഏകദേശം 8 മിനിറ്റ് 46 സെക്കൻഡ് സമയം^{[note 1]} ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കഴുത്തിൽ മുട്ടുകുത്തി ശ്വാസം മുട്ടിച്ചപ്പോഴാണ് മരണം സംഭവിച്ചത്.^[7][8] ഇതിൽ 2 മിനിറ്റ് 53 സെക്കൻഡ് സമയം ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ പ്രതികരണശേഷി നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു^[9][10]. ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ മുഖം റോഡിൽ ചേർന്നു കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു^[11]. "എനിക്ക് ശ്വാസം മുട്ടുന്നേ" എന്ന് ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയിഡ് പല തവണ യാചിച്ചിരുന്നു^[12]. തോമസ് കെ. ലെയ്ൻ, ടൗ താവോ, ജെ. അലക്സാണ്ടർ കുവെംഗ് എന്നിവരാണ് കുറ്റാരോപിതരായ മറ്റു പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ. ഇവർ ചേർന്നാണ് ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തത്.^[13] ഫ്ലോയിഡ് പിടിയിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു പോകാതെ ലെയ്ൻ കാലുകൾ അമർത്തിപ്പിടിച്ചപ്പോൾ മറ്റൊരു പോലീസുകാരനായ കുവെങ് ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ തടഞ്ഞുനിർത്തി, അതേസമയം താവോ സമീപത്ത് ഇതെല്ലാം നോക്കി നിന്നു^[14]. ഷോവിനെയും കൊലപാതകത്തിൽ പരോക്ഷമായി പങ്കാളികളായ മറ്റ് മൂന്ന് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെയും പിറ്റേന്ന് ജോലിയിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.^[15]

മിനസോട്ടയിലെ ഡൗൺ ടൗണിന് തെക്ക് അയൽ‌പ്രദേശമായ പൗഡർഹോൺ‌ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ഫ്ലോയിഡ് അറസ്റ്റുചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് സംഭവങ്ങളുടെ തുടക്കം.^[16] ഇത് കാഴ്ചക്കാരുടെ സ്മാർട്ട്‌ഫോണുകളിൽ പകർത്തപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.^[17] ഒരു പലചരക്കുകടയിലെ ജീവനക്കാരൻ, ഫ്ലോയിഡ് ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ച 20 ഡോളർ ബിൽ വ്യാജമാണെന്ന സംശയം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചതിന് ശേഷമാണ് അറസ്റ്റ് എന്നാണ് പോലീസിൻ്റെ വാദം. വാഹനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുകടക്കാൻ ഉത്തരവിട്ടതിനെ തുടർന്ന് ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് ശാരീരികമായി പ്രതിരോധിച്ചുവെന്ന് പോലീസ് ആരോപിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ ലഭ്യമായ വീഡിയോ റെക്കോർഡിംഗുകൾക്ക് കടക വിരുദ്ധമായിരുന്നു ഈ ആരോപണങ്ങൾ.^[18] ചെറുത്തപ്പോൾ നിലത്തുവീഴ്‌ത്തി ഡെറെക് ഷോവിൻ എന്ന പൊലീസുകാരൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ കഴുത്തിൽ കാൽമുട്ടമർത്തുകയായിരുന്നു.^[19] അറസ്റ്റിൻ്റെ വീഡിയോ റെക്കോർഡിംഗുകളിൽ "എനിക്ക് ശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല" എന്ന് ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് ആവർത്തിച്ച് പറയുന്നത് കാണിക്കുന്നത് സാമൂഹ്യമാധ്യമങ്ങളിലൂടെ വ്യാപകമായി പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുകയും മാധ്യമങ്ങൾ ഇത് പ്രക്ഷേപണം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.^[20][21] ഷോവിനെയും സംഭവത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ട മറ്റ്‌ മൂന്ന്‌ പൊലീസുകാരെയും പിറ്റേ ദിവസംതന്നെ ജോലിയിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കി.^[22]

മിന്നീപോളിസ് പോലീസ് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്‌മെൻ്റിൻ്റെ അഭ്യർത്ഥന മാനിച്ച് ഫെഡറൽ ബ്യൂറോ ഓഫ് ഇൻവെസ്റ്റിഗേഷൻ (എഫ്ബിഐ) സംഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒരു ഫെഡറൽ പൗരാവകാശ അന്വേഷണം നടത്തുമെന്നു പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. മിനസോട്ട ബ്യൂറോ ഓഫ് ക്രിമിനൽ അപ്രെഹെൻഷനും (ബിസിഎ) ചട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ലംഘനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു.^[23] മെയ് 29-ന്, ഹെന്നേപിൻ കൗണ്ടി അറ്റോർണി മൈക്കൽ ഒ ഫ്രീമാൻ ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിൽ മൂന്നാം ഡിഗ്രി കൊലപാതകം, രണ്ടാം ഡിഗ്രി നരഹത്യ എന്നിവ ചുമത്തി ഷോവിനെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിൽ മൂന്ന് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്കെതിരെയും കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി ഫ്രീമാൻ പറഞ്ഞു.^[24][25]

മെയ് 26-ന്, ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണശേഷം, മിന്നീപോളിസ്-സെൻ്റ് പോൾ പ്രദേശത്ത് നടന്ന പ്രകടനങ്ങളും പ്രതിഷേധങ്ങളും തുടക്കത്തിൽ സമാധാനപരമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ പ്രതിഷേധക്കാർ പരിസരത്തെ കെട്ടിടങ്ങളുടെ ജനാലകൾ തകർത്തതും രണ്ട് സ്റ്റോറുകൾക്ക് തീയിട്ടതും നിരവധി സ്റ്റോറുകൾ കൊള്ളയടിക്കുകയും കേടുപാടുകൾ വരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്‌തോടെ പ്രക്ഷോഭം പിന്നീട് അക്രമാസക്തമായി.^[26] ഇതിനിടെ ചില പ്രകടനക്കാർ പൊലീസുമായി ഏറ്റുമുട്ടിയതോടെ പോലീസ് കണ്ണീർ വാതകവും റബ്ബർ ബുള്ളറ്റും പ്രയോഗിച്ചു.^[27][28] പ്രാഥമിക പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടം റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് കഴുത്തിലെ ഞരമ്പുകളിൽ ഏറ്റ ആഘാതം കൊണ്ടോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഹൃദയാഘാതം മൂലമോ ആകാം മരിച്ചതെന്ന സൂചനകളൊന്നുംതന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയില്ല, എന്നാൽ പോലീസ് പ്രതിബന്ധിച്ചു നിർത്തിയതും കൂടാതെ, കൊറോണറി ആർട്ടറി രോഗം, രക്താതിമർദ്ദം എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ആരോഗ്യസ്ഥിതികൾ, ശരീരത്തിലെ ഏതെങ്കിലും ലഹരിവസ്തുക്കൾ, എന്നിവയുടെ സംയോജിത ഫലങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിന് കാരണമായിരിക്കാം എന്നും പ്രാഥമിക റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു.^[29] ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കുടുംബം സ്വതന്ത്ര പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടത്തിന് അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചതായി ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കുടുംബ അഭിഭാഷകർ അറിയിച്ചു.^[30]

ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തെ 2014 ലെ എറിക് ഗാർണറുടെ മരണവുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്താവുന്നതാണ്. നിരായുധനായ കറുത്ത മനുഷ്യനായ ഗാർനർ, സ്റ്റാറ്റൻ ഐലൻഡിൽ അറസ്റ്റുചെയ്യുന്നതിനിടെ ന്യൂയോർക്ക് പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ ചോക്ഹോൾഡിൽ (ശ്വാസം മുട്ടിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തിൽ ഒരാളുടെ കഴുത്ത് കൈകൊണ്ടു ചുറ്റിപ്പിടിക്കൽ) വച്ചതിന് ശേഷം "എനിക്ക് ശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല" എന്ന് പതിനൊന്ന് തവണ ആവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു.^[31]

ഷോവിൻ്റെ വിചാരണ 2021 മാർച്ച് 8 ന് ആരംഭിച്ച് 2021 ഏപ്രിൽ 20 ന് സമാപിച്ചു.^[32] കൊലപാതകമടക്കം പ്രതിക്കെതിരെ ചുമത്തിയ മൂന്ന് കുറ്റങ്ങളും കോടതി ശെരിവെച്ചു.^[33] മറ്റ് മൂന്ന് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ വിചാരണ 2021 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 23 ന് ആരംഭിക്കും.^[32]

നോർത്ത് കരോലിനയിലെ ഫയെറ്റെവില്ലെയിൽ ജനിച്ച് ടെക്സസിലെ ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിൽ വളർന്ന 46 കാരനായ ആഫ്രിക്കൻ-അമേരിക്കൻ^[34] വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു ജോർജ്ജ് പെറി ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ്.^[35] യേറ്റ്സ് ഹൈസ്കൂളിലായിരുന്നു ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻറെ പഠനം. സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസകാലം മുതൽക്കുതന്നെ ഒരു മികച്ച കായികതാരവും നർത്തകനുമായിരുന്നു ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ്. യേറ്റ്സ് ഹൈസ്കൂളിലെ ബാസ്ക്കറ്റ്ബോൾ, ഫുട്ബോൾ ടീമുകളിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നു.^[36] സൗത്ത് ഫ്ലോറിഡ കമ്യൂണിറ്റി കോളജിൻറെ ബാസ്കറ്റ്ബാൾ ടീമിലെ സ്ഥിരം അംഗമായി.എന്നാൽ, പഠനം തുടരാൻ കഴിയാതെ ഫ്ലോയിഡ് ഹൂസ്റ്റണിലെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് തന്നെ മടങ്ങി. പിന്നീട് ഹിപ്-ഹോപ്പ് ഗ്രൂപ്പായ സ്ക്രൂഡ് അപ്പ് ക്ലിക്കിൽ അംഗമായി.^[37] 2014 ൽ ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് മിനസോട്ടയിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറി.^[38] സെൻ്റ് ലൂയിസ് പാർക്കിൽ താമസിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം അടുത്തുള്ള മിന്നീപോളിസിൽ റെസ്റ്റോറൻ്റ് സുരക്ഷാ ജീവനക്കാരനായും ട്രക്ക് ഡ്രൈവറായും അഞ്ച് വർഷം ജോലി ചെയ്തു.^[39] മരണ സമയത്ത്, കോവിഡ് -19 പാൻഡെമിക് കാരണം മിനസോട്ടയിലെ വീട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ തുടരാനുള്ള ഉത്തരവ് കാരണം ഫ്ലോയിഡിന് തൻ്റെ ജോലി നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.^[40] ഫ്ലോയിഡിന് ഹ്യൂസ്റ്റണിൽ 6 വയസ്സും 22 വയസ്സും പ്രായമുള്ള രണ്ട് പെൺമക്കളുമുണ്ട്.^[41][42]

പോലീസ്‌ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ

ഡെറെക് മൈക്കിൾ ഷോവിൻ, 44 കാരനായ വെള്ളക്കാരൻ (ജനനം: മാർച്ച് 19, 1976) 2001 മുതൽ മിന്നീപോളിസ് പോലീസ് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്‌മെൻ്റിൽ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായിരുന്നു.^[43] ഷോവിന് രണ്ട് ഔദ്യോഗിക ശാസനാ കത്തുകളും അച്ചടക്ക നടപടികളുൾപ്പെടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക രേഖയിൽ 18 പരാതികളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.^[44] മൂന്ന് പോലീസ് വെടിവയ്പുകളിൽ ഇയാൾ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്, അതിലൊന്ന് മാരകമായിരുന്നു.^[43][45][46] മുൻ ക്ലബ് ഉടമ മായ സാൻ്റാമരിയയുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ, ലാറ്റിൻ നിശാക്ലബ്ബായ എൽ ന്യൂവോ റോഡിയോയിൽ ഫ്ലോയിഡും ഷോവിനും സുരക്ഷാ ഗാർഡുകളായി മാറിമാറി ജോലി ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഷോവിൻ 17 വർഷത്തോളം അവിടെ ജോലി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും ഫ്ലോയിഡ് പന്ത്രണ്ടോളം പരിപാടികളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. അവർ പരസ്പരം അറിയുമോയെന്ന് വ്യക്തമല്ലെന്നും താൻ അങ്ങനെ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നും അവർ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.^[47][48] ക്ലബ്ബിലെ ലാറ്റിനോ സ്ഥിര ഇടപാടുകാരുമായി ഷോവിൻ നന്നായി ഇടപഴകുമായിരുന്നുവെന്നും എന്നാൽ അക്രമാസക്തരായ ഉപഭോക്താക്കളോടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ പെരുമാറ്റം, “ആഫ്രിക്കൻ അമേരിക്കൻ” എന്നാണ് അവർ വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്, പല രാത്രികളിൽ അവളെ ഷോവിനോട് സംസാരിക്കാൻ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നും സാൻ്റാമരിയ പറയുന്നു.^[49]

ടൗ താവോ, 34 കാരനായ ഹോങ്കോങ്-അമേരിക്കൻ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ, 2009-ൽ പോലീസ് അക്കാദമിയിൽ ചേർന്നു.^[50] രണ്ടുവർഷത്തേക്ക് ജോലിയിൽ നിന്ന് പിരിച്ചുവിട്ട ശേഷം 2012-ൽ മിന്നീപോളിസ് പോലീസിൽ ഒരു മുഴുവൻ സമയ സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് ഇദ്ദേഹം നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.^[43] 2017 ൽ, താവോ അമിതമായി ബലപ്രയോഗം നടത്തിയതിനുള്ള കേസിൽ ഒരു പ്രതിയായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഈ കേസ് 25,000 ഡോളറിന് കോടതിക്ക് പുറത്ത് തീർപ്പാക്കി.^[43]

അവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന മറ്റ് രണ്ട് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ തോമസ് ലെയ്ൻ, 34 വയസ്സ് & ജെ. അലക്സാണ്ടർ കുവെംഗ്, 26 വയസ്സ്, 2019 ഓഗസ്റ്റിൽ നിയമപാലകരായി അനുമതി നേടിയവരാണ്.^[51] ഇരുവരുടെയും രേഖകളിൽ മുൻകാല പരാതികളൊന്നും തന്നെ ഇല്ല.^[44]

അറസ്റ്റും മരണവും

ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ച സംഭവങ്ങളുടെ ശൃംഖല ആരംഭിച്ചത് മെയ് 25 ന് രാത്രി 8:00 മണിക്ക് ശേഷമാണ്. മിന്നീപൊളിസിലെ പൗഡർഹോൺ‌ പരിസരത്തുള്ള ഷിക്കാഗോ അവന്യൂ സൗത്തിൽ ഒരു "വ്യാജപ്രവൃത്തി നടക്കുന്നു" എന്ന് മിന്നീപൊളിസ് പോലീസ് വകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്ക് വിവരം ലഭിക്കുന്നു. ഡബ്ല്യു.സി.‌സി.‌ഒ-യുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ, ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ്, അടുത്തുള്ള പലചരക്ക്കടയിൽ വ്യാജ കറൻസി നോട്ടുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു എന്നാണ് സൂചന. കപ്പ് ഫുഡ്സിൻ്റെ സഹ ഉടമയുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ, ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് സിഗരറ്റ് വാങ്ങി പണം നൽകിയ സമയത്ത് ഫ്ലോയ്‍ഡ് നൽകിയ 20 ഡോളർ വ്യാജ നോട്ടാണോയെന്ന് കടയിലെ ജോലിക്കാരൻ സംശയം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു^{[note 2]}. വാങ്ങിയ സിഗരറ്റ് കടയിലെ ജീവനക്കാരൻ തിരികെ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ ഫ്ലോയ്‍ഡ് അതിന് തയ്യാറാവുകയും ചെയ്തില്ല. തുടർന്ന് ജീവനക്കാർ 911 എന്ന നമ്പറിൽ വിളിച്ചു പരാതിപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.^[54] പോലീസ് പ്രസ്താവനയിൽ ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് തൊട്ടടുത്ത് പാർക്ക് ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കാറിൽ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു എന്നും വാഹനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങാൻ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ഉത്തരവിട്ടപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം ശാരീരികമായി പ്രതിരോധിച്ചു എന്നും പറയുന്നു. മാത്രമല്ല, ഫ്ലോയ്‍ഡ് മദ്യപിച്ച്, സ്വയം നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ശാരീരികമായ തളർച്ച അനുഭവിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നും റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു.^[55] മണിക്കൂറുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം പുറത്തുവന്ന കാഴ്ചക്കാരൻ്റെ വീഡിയോ റെക്കോർഡിംഗ് തികച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്തമായതും ഈ അവകാശവാദങ്ങൾക്ക് കടകവിരുദ്ധവുമായിരുന്നു.^[56] "ഒരു വെളുത്ത പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ ഒരു കറുത്ത പ്രതിയുടെ കഴുത്തിൽ കാൽമുട്ടുകുത്തി അബോധാവസ്ഥയിൽ ആകുന്നതുവരെ അമർത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു". ജോർജ്ജ് ഫ്ലോയ്ഡ് എന്ന മനുഷ്യൻ “എനിക്ക് ശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല” എന്ന് വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും യാചിക്കുന്നത് ഈ മൽപ്പിടുത്തത്തിലുടനീളം കേൾക്കാം.^[12]

മിന്നീപൊളിസ് പോലീസിൻ്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ, “പ്രതിയെ കൈവിലങ്ങ്‌ അണിയിക്കാൻ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞു, പക്ഷെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വൈദ്യസഹായം ആവശ്യമുള്ളതായി കാണുന്നതിനാൽ ആംബുലൻസ് വിളിച്ചു.^[57] അറസ്റ്റിൽ ആയുധങ്ങളൊന്നും ഉപയോഗിച്ചിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് മിന്നീപൊളിസ് പോലീസിൻ്റെ പ്രസ്താവനയിൽ പറയുന്നു. മിന്നീപൊളിസ് അഗ്നിശമന വകുപ്പിൻ്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ, പാരാമെഡിക്കുകൾ പ്രതികരണശേഷിയില്ലാത്ത, ചലനമറ്റ, നാഡീസ്‌പന്ദനം നിലച്ച ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ സ്ഥാനത്ത് നിന്ന് മാറ്റി ചെസ്ററ് കംപ്രഷനുകളും മറ്റ് ജീവൻരക്ഷാ നടപടികളും ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു.^[58] ചലനരഹിതനായ ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ ഹെന്നെപിൻ കൗണ്ടി മെഡിക്കൽ സെൻ്ററിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി. അവിടെവെച്ച് 9:25 ന് അദ്ദേഹം മരിച്ചതായി ആധികാരികമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.^[59][60]

കാഴ്ചക്കാരൻ റെക്കോർഡുചെയ്‌ത അറസ്റ്റിൻ്റെ വീഡിയോ

അറസ്റ്റിൻ്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗം ഒരു കാഴ്ചക്കാരൻ റെക്കോർഡ് ചെയ്യുകയും ഫേസ്ബുക്ക് ലൈവിലേക്ക് സ്ട്രീം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു,^[61] പിന്നീട് ഇത് സാമൂഹ്യമാധ്യമങ്ങളിലടക്കം വ്യാപകമായി പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.^[62] വീഡിയോയിൽ അദ്ദേഹം നിലത്തു മുഖമടിച്ച് വീണ് കിടക്കുന്നതും പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായ ഷോവിൻ കൈ പോക്കറ്റിലാക്കി ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കഴുത്തിന്മേൽ ഇടത് കാൽമുട്ടുകൊണ്ട് ബലമായി അമർത്തി നിൽക്കുന്നതു കാണാം.^[63] പല പ്രാവശ്യവും അദ്ദേഹം തനിക്ക് ശ്വാസം മുട്ടുന്നുവെന്നുവെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ അനങ്ങിയില്ല. ശ്വാസോച്ഛ്വാസം നടത്താനുള്ള തൻ്റെ പ്രയാസത്തെക്കുറിച്ച്ഫ്ലോയിഡ് പോലീസിന് മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകിയപ്പോൾ പോലും ഷോവിൻ ഇടതുകൈ പോക്കറ്റിലിട്ട് ഒരു സാധാരണ മനോഭാവത്തിൽ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വിശ്രമിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ നിൽക്കുന്നതിനെ മുൻ പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ഗുരുതരമായി വിമർശിച്ചിരുന്നു.^[63][64] വീഡിയോ ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്നെ ഫ്ലോയിഡ് നെഞ്ച് നിലത്തു പതിച്ച് ഓഫീസർ ഷോവിൻ കഴുത്തിൽ മുട്ടുകുത്തി നിൽക്കുകയാണ്.^[65] ഏകദേശം ആറ് മിനിറ്റ് കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഫ്ലോയിഡ് ചലനമറ്റു നിശബ്ദനായി, അപ്പോഴേക്കും ആംബുലൻസ് എത്തി,^[61][66] അടിയന്തിര മെഡിക്കൽ സേവനങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങുന്നതുവരെ ഷോവിൻ ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കഴുത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കാൽമുട്ട് ഉയർത്തുന്നില്ല. ആളുകൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ പൾസ് പരിശോധിക്കാൻ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നത് ഈ വീഡിയോകളിൽ കാണാം, എന്നിട്ടും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ പിന്മാറിയില്ല.^[67] ഈ വീഡിയോയിൽ കാണുന്ന പ്രകാരം ഷോവിൻ കുറഞ്ഞത് ഏഴു മിനിറ്റെങ്കിലും ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കഴുത്തിൽ മുട്ടുകുത്തിയിരുന്നു എന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.^[66]

അനന്തരഫലങ്ങൾ

മെയ് 26 ന് മിന്നീപൊളിസ് പോലീസ് മേധാവി മെഡാരിയ അരഡോണ്ടോ കുറ്റാരോപിതരായ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെ നിർബന്ധിത അവധിയിൽ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചതായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.^[68] പിന്നീട് അതെ ദിവസം നാല് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരെയും പുറത്താക്കി.^[69] അന്ന് തന്നെ സംഭവം അവലോകനം ചെയ്യുന്നതായി എഫ്.ബി.ഐ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.^[70] ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ വസ്ത്രത്തിൽ ഘടിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ക്യാമറകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള സംഭവദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ മിനസോട്ട ബ്യൂറോ ഓഫ് ക്രിമിനൽ അപ്രെഹെൻഷനിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി.^[71] സിവിൽ റൈറ്റ്സ് അറ്റോർണി ആയ ബെഞ്ചമിൻ ക്രമ്പ് ആണ് ഈ കേസിൽ ഫ്ലോയ്ഡിൻ്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നത്.^[72]

മെയ് 27 ന് ഷോവിനെ ലക്ഷ്യം വച്ചുള്ള തെറ്റായ വിവരങ്ങൾ സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയയിൽ പ്രചരിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.^[73] ഷോവിൻ മെയ്ക്ക് വൈറ്റ്സ് ഗ്രേറ്റ് എഗെയ്ൻ തൊപ്പി ധരിച്ച ഫോട്ടോയും ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ റാലിയിൽ പ്രസിഡൻ്റ് ഡൊണാൾഡ് ട്രംപിനൊപ്പം സ്റ്റേജിലുണ്ടെന്നുമുള്ള വാദങ്ങളായിരുന്നു അതിൽ പ്രമുഖം.^[74] രണ്ട് വാർത്തളും വ്യാജമാണെന്നു പിന്നീട് തെളിഞ്ഞു.^[75]

മെയ് 28 ന് ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അന്വേഷണത്തിന് മുൻ‌ഗണന നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ നീതിന്യായ വകുപ്പ്, എഫ്.ബി.ഐയുമായി സംയുക്ത പ്രസ്താവന ഇറക്കി.^[76] പരിചയസമ്പന്നരായ പ്രോസിക്യൂട്ടർമാരെയും എഫ്.ബി.ഐ ക്രിമിനൽ ഇൻവെസ്റ്റിഗേറ്റർമാരെയും ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ നിയോഗിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അന്വേഷണത്തിൻ്റെ അടുത്ത നടപടിക്രമങ്ങൾക്ക് രൂപം നൽകിയതായും അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. സമഗ്രമായ അന്വേഷണം ലഭ്യമായ എല്ലാ വിവരങ്ങളും സമാഹരിക്കുകയും സാക്ഷികളിൽ നിന്ന് ലഭിച്ച തെളിവുകളും വിവരങ്ങളും വിശദമായി വിലയിരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഫെഡറൽ നിയമത്തിൻ്റെ ലംഘനമാണെങ്കിൽ, ക്രിമിനൽ കുറ്റങ്ങൾ ചാർത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നും പ്രസ്താവനയിൽ പറയുന്നു.^[77]

മെയ് 29 ന്, താവോ മിനസോട്ടയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുപോയതായും സുരക്ഷിതമായി മറ്റെവിടെയെങ്കിലും ആണെന്നും താവോയുടെ അഭിഭാഷകനായ റോബർട്ട് പോൾ സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചു, കൂടുതൽ പ്രതികരിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹം വിസമ്മതിച്ചു. ജെ. അലക്സാണ്ടർ കുവേങ് തൻ്റെ കുടുംബത്തോടൊപ്പം മിന്നീപൊളിസിൽ താമസിക്കുന്നതായി കരുതപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, തോമസ് ലെയ്ൻ മെയ് 29 വരെ ഒരു അജ്ഞാത സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് സ്ഥലം വിട്ടുപോയതായി ഒരു ബന്ധു പറഞ്ഞു.^[78]

കുറ്റാരോപണം

മെയ് 29-2020,^[79] ഒരു കറുത്ത പൗരൻറെ മരണത്തിൽ കുറ്റാരോപിതനായ മിനസോട്ടയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വെള്ളക്കാരനായ പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ, ഷോവിൻ, അറസ്റ്റിലായി.^[80][81] ഹെന്നേപിൻ കൗണ്ടി അറ്റോർണി മൈക്കൽ ഒ ഫ്രീമാൻ ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിൽ മൂന്നാം ഡിഗ്രി കൊലപാതകം, രണ്ടാം ഡിഗ്രി നരഹത്യ എന്നിവയ്‌ക്കെതിരെ ഷോവിനെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിൽ മൂന്ന് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്കെതിരെയും കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി ഫ്രീമാൻ പറഞ്ഞു.^[82][83] കൊല്ലാനുള്ള ഉദ്ദേശമില്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരാളുടെ മരണത്തിനു കാരണമാകുക, മനുഷ്യജീവനെ പരിഗണിക്കാതെ സ്വന്തം അധപതിച്ച മനസ്സിനെ പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നൊക്കെയാണു മിനസോട്ട നിയമത്തിനു കീഴിൽ മൂന്നാം തരം കൊലപാതകത്തെ നിർവചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.^[84] കുറ്റവാളി ഗുരുതരമായ ഉപദ്രവത്തിനോ അപായപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനോ യുക്തിരഹിതമായ അപകടസാധ്യത സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു എന്നു പറയുമ്പോഴും, രണ്ടാംതരം നരഹത്യ മാരകമായ ഉദ്ദേശത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കുടുംബ അഭിഭാഷകനായ ബെഞ്ചമിൻ ക്രമ്പ്, ഈ സംഭവത്തിൽ അപായപ്പെടുത്തണം എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശമുണ്ട് എന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചു് ഷോവിന് ഒന്നാം തരം കുറ്റം ചുമത്തണം എന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.^[85]

മെയ് 31-ന് ഗവർണർ ടിം വാൾസിൻ്റെ അഭ്യർത്ഥന മാനിച്ച് മിനസോട്ട അറ്റോർണി ജനറൽ കീത്ത് എലിസൺ കേസ് ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. ജൂൺ 3-ന് എലിസൺ ഷോവിനെതിരായ ആരോപണങ്ങളിൽ മനപ്പൂർവമല്ലാത്ത രണ്ടാം ഡിഗ്രി കൊലപാതകം ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തി ഭേദഗതി വരുത്തി. ഇതിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ട മറ്റ് മൂന്ന് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്കെതിരെ കുറ്റം ചെയ്യാൻ സഹായിക്കുകയും പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതിന് രണ്ടാം ഡിഗ്രി കൊലപാതകുറ്റവും ചുമത്തി.^[86][87]കുറ്റവാളി അവരുടെ ഇരയെ മനപ്പൂർവം കൊന്നുവെന്ന് അന്യായക്കാരന് തെളിയിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ രണ്ടാം ഡിഗ്രി കൊലപാതക കുറ്റത്തിന് കൂടുതൽ ഉയർന്ന ശിക്ഷയാണ് നൽകുക. ഷോവിനെതിരായ മനപ്പൂർവമല്ലാത്ത രണ്ടാം തരം കൊലപാതകക്കുറ്റത്തിന് മിനസോട്ട ശിക്ഷാ മാർഗ്ഗനിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം 150 മാസത്തെ അനുമാന ശിക്ഷയാണ് ലഭിക്കുക.^[88][89]

ഈ ഭേദഗതികൾ ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ കുടുംബവും അവരുടെ അഭിഭാഷകനും സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്തു, എന്നാൽ ഒന്നാം തരം കൊലപാതകക്കുറ്റം ചുമത്തണം എന്ന അവരുടെ മുമ്പത്തെ ആവശ്യം ആവർത്തിച്ചു.^[90]

ഹെന്നെപിൻ കൗണ്ടി മെഡിക്കൽ എക്‌സാമിനർ കണ്ടെത്തലുകൾ

2020 മെയ് 26 ന് ഹെന്നപിൻ കൗണ്ടി മെഡിക്കൽ എക്‌സാമിനർ ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടം നടത്തി.^[91]

മെയ് 29-ന് ഷോവിനെതിരായ ക്രിമിനൽ പരാതി ഹെന്നേപിൻ കൗണ്ടി അറ്റോർണി ഓഫീസ് പരസ്യമായി പുറത്തുവിട്ടു.^{[92] [93]} ഹെന്നേപിൻ കൗണ്ടി മെഡിക്കൽ എക്‌സാമിനറുടെ പൂർണ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ആ സമയത്ത് പുറത്തുവിട്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്തതിനാൽ, പ്രാഥമിക കണ്ടെത്തലുകൾ ഉദ്ധരിച്ചു ക്രിമിനൽ പരാതി എടുത്തു.^[92][91][92] ഷോവിനിനെതിരായ ക്രിമിനൽ പരാതിയിൽ പറയുന്നത് പ്രകാരം ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടത്തിൽ ഹൃദയാഘാതം, ശ്വാസംമുട്ടിയുള്ള മരണം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ രക്തധമനിയെ അമർത്തി ഏതെങ്കിലും ശരീരഭാഗത്തേക്കുള്ള രക്തപ്രവാഹം തടയുക എന്നിവ കൃത്യമായി നിർണ്ണയിക്കാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്ന പ്രത്യക്ഷമായ കണ്ടെത്തലുകളൊന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയില്ല. കൂടാതെ ഫ്ലോയിഡിന് കൊറോണറി ആർട്ടറി (ഹൃദയത്തിന്‌ രക്തം കൊടുക്കുന്ന ധമനി) രോഗം, രക്താതിമർദ്ദം ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള ഹൃദ്രോഗങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കൂടാതെ ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ പോലീസ് പ്രതിബന്ധിച്ചു നിർത്തിയതും ഒപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ആരോഗ്യപരമായ അവസ്ഥകളും ശരീരത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടാകുവാൻ സാദ്ധ്യതയുള്ള ഏതെങ്കിലും ലഹരിവസ്തുക്കൾ തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ സംയോജിത ഫലങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ മരണത്തിന് കാരണമായേക്കും എന്നും പ്രേതപരിശോധനയിൽ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്.^[94][95]

ജൂൺ 1-ന് ഹെന്നേപിൻ കൗണ്ടി മെഡിക്കൽ എക്‌സാമിനർ പോസ്റ്റ്‌മോർട്ടത്തിൻ്റെ അന്തിമ കണ്ടെത്തലുകളുടെ പത്രക്കുറിപ്പ് ഇറക്കി.^[96] ഇത് ഫ്ലോയിഡിൻ്റെ മരണത്തെ ഒരു നരഹത്യയായി തരംതിരിച്ചു.^[97] നിയമപാലകർ ബലമായി പിടിച്ചുനിർത്തുന്നതിനിടയിൽ കാർഡിയോപൾമോണറി അറസ്റ്റിനെ (പെട്ടെന്ന് ഹൃദയമിടിപ്പ് നിലയ്ക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥ) തുടർന്നാണ് മരണം സംഭവിച്ചത്. നിയമപാലകർ ഫ്ലോയിഡിനെ കീഴ്‌പ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിന് ബലമായി പിടിച്ചുനിർത്തിയതും, കഴുത്ത് ഞെരുക്കിയമർത്തിയതും സ്ഥിതി കൂടുതൽ സങ്കീർണ്ണമാക്കി.^[98]

സ്വതന്ത്ര മെഡിക്കൽ എക്സാമിനർ കണ്ടെത്തലുകൾ
