Etymology 1

“to borrow; false”
The sense evolved in the following manner: "to borrow" > "simulate" > "deception; false".
Cognate with Tibetan ཀར་སྐྱིན (kar skyin, loan; thing borrowed). An allofam is probably (OC *kʷaːs, *ɡʷaːʔ, “to hire”) (Schuessler, 2007).
Compare also perhaps Burmese ကြွေး (krwe:, debt) (STEDT).
