Chinese
Glyph origin
Pictogram (象形): a sharp peg — original form of 杙 (OC *lɯɡ, “peg”). Same as 才 and 尗.
Etymology
Traditionally connected to Proto-Tibeto-Burman *kyak (“navel, umbilical cord, rope”), the latter whence Burmese ချက် (hkyak, “navel”); however, the Old Chinese reconstructions make this problematic. Perhaps related to 射 (OC *ɢljaːɡs, *laːɡs, *ɢljaːɡ, *laːɡ, “to shoot”) (STEDT).
