Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-kok (outer covering, skin, bark, rind). Cognate with (OC *krɯːɡ, “leather”), Burmese ခေါက် (hkauk, tree bark), Tibetan སྐོག་པ་ (skog pa, shell, peel) (STEDT, Hill (2019)).
