From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *kaʔ (bitter; salty); compare Tibetan (kha, bitter), Tangut 𗎖 (*khie¹, bitter) (STEDT; Jacques, 2014). Within Chinese, cognate with (OC *kaːn, “liver”).
