Клецк[3] (трансліт.: Klieck) — горад у Мінскай вобласці Беларусі, адміністрацыйны цэнтр Клецкага раёна, на р. Лань. За 140 км на паўднёвы захад ад Мінска; чыгуначная станцыя на лініі Асіповічы—Баранавічы. Аўтадарогамі злучаны з Нясвіжам, Баранавічамі, Слуцкам. Насельніцтва 11 348 чалавек (2017)[4].

На думку беларускага географа В. Жучкевіча, тапонім «Клецк» утварыўся ад асновы клець, або старога дыялектнага слова «клеч» — бярозавы параснік[5]. Ранейшыя назвы горада ў гістарычных крыніцах: Клѣчьск[6], Клеческ, Клическ[7].
Археалагічная гісторыя мясцін пачынаецца ў IV—V стст., калі на беразе Лані існавала неўмацаванае балцкае паселішча культуры штрыхаванай керамікі. У 2-й палове Х ст. на месцы горада было неўмацаванае паселішча дрыгавічоў. Паселішча, паводле археалагічных раскопак, на месцы сучаснага Клецка існавала і ў сярэдзіне XI ст.
Упершыню Клецк згадваецца пад 1127 годам як сталіца ўдзельнага княства[8], калі князь Вячаслаў Яраславіч «ис Клечьска» браў удзел у паходзе кіеўскіх князёў на Полацкую зямлю. У 1258 годзе Клецк спалены татарскімі войскамі Бурундая падчас паходу на Навагрудскую зямлю.
У XIV ст. Клецкае княства далучана да Вялікага Княства Літоўскага[9]. Пад 1398 годам згадваецца Ямант Тулунтавіч — клецкі намеснік вялікага князя Вітаўта. У 1401 годзе Вітаўт перадаў горад свайму брату Жыгімонту Кейстутавічу, у 1404 — князю Раману Фёдаравічу. У 1433 годзе пад Клецкам войскі Жыгімонта Кейстутавіча разбілі прыхільнікаў Свідрыгайлы Альгердавіча. Пазней вялікі князь Казімір даў горад і княства маскоўскаму ўцекачу князю Івану Васілевічу Яраславічу, які пакінуў іх у спадчыну свайму сыну Фёдару.
У 1503 годзе Клецк спалілі крымскія татары. У 1506 годзе на Вялікае Княства Літоўскае напалі больш за трыццаць тысяч крымскіх татараў на чале з Махмат-Гірэям, Біціс-Гірэям і Бурнаш-салтанам. Сабранае вялікім князем Аляксандрам войска на чале з Міхаілам Глінскім 5 жніўня 1506 года разбіла войска крымскіх царэвічаў на Лані каля Клецка, большасць татараў загінула.
Вялікі князь Аляксандр выдаў Клецку прывілей на адзін рэгулярны кірмаш. У 1522—1556 гадах горад знаходзіўся ў валоданнях вялікай княгіні Боны Сфорца.
У 1550 Андрэй Маствілоўскі фундаваў у Клецку Фарны касцёл (Траецкі касцёл)[10]. Станам на 1552 у горадзе было сто трыццаць сем двароў, чатыры царквы, манастыр, касцёл. У 1553 тут пачаў дзейнічаць адзін з першых на Беларусі кальвінскіх збораў, дзе ў 1560—1563 служыў прапаведнікам Сымон Будны. У 1559 вялікі князь Жыгімонт Аўгуст выдаў гораду прывілей на два рэгулярныя кірмашы. У 1586 г. утварылася Клецкая ардынацыя Радзівілаў. Станам на 1626 у горадзе было 448 двароў, пад 1641 годам згадваецца Клецкая бібліятэка Радзівілаў.
27 жніўня 1652 кароль і вялікі князь Ян Казімір надаў Клецку Магдэбургскае права і герб: «у блакітным полі княжацкая карона, пад якой паляўнічы рог»[11]. У Трынаццацігадовую вайну ў 1655 маскоўскія захопнікі зруйнавалі Клецк. Насельніцтва горада скарацілася ўдвая[12]. У 1683 г. маршалак вялікі Станіслаў Казімір Радзівіл заснаваў тут дамініканскі кляштар. У гэты час у горадзе было 217 двароў, дзейнічалі драўляныя ўніяцкія цэрквы Ушэсця і Уваскрэсенская, працавалі тры рамесныя цэхі.
Пад час Вялікай Паўночнай вайны ў 1706 шведскі аддзел разбіў пад Клецкам расійскае войска. Кароль і вялікі князь Аўгуст Моцны паўторна надаў гораду прывілей на два рэгулярныя кірмашы. Станам на 1713 год у горадзе было сто пяцьдзясят два двары.
У выніку другога падзелу Рэчы Паспалітай (1793) Клецк апынуўся ў складзе Расійскай імперыі, дзе стаў цэнтрам воласці Случарэцкага павета. Статус паселішча панізілі да мястэчка, якое зрабілася вядомым у рэгіёне цэнтрам гандлю. У 1796 у Клецку збудавалі харальную сінагогу. 20 красавіка (3 мая) 1917 гараджане ўпершыню змаглі ўрачыста адзначыць гадавіну прыняцця Канстытуцыі 3 мая[13].
Згодна з Рыжскім мірным дагаворам (1921) Клецк апынуўся ў складзе міжваеннай Польскай Рэспублікі, у Нясвіжскім павеце. Цягам 1924—1931 у Клецку працавала беларуская гімназія. У 1924—1939 гадах у горадзе дзейнічалі польскія памежныя падраздзяленні: батальён Корпуса аховы памежжа «Клецк», артылерыйская батарэя КАП «Клецк» і кавалерыйскі эскадрон «Клецк».
У 1939 Клецк увайшоў у БССР, дзе ў 1940 стаў цэнтрам раёна. У Вялікую айчынную вайну з 26 чэрвеня 1941 года да 4 ліпеня 1944 года горад знаходзіўся пад нямецкай акупацыяй, 6 кастрычніка 1941 нацысты расстралялі каля чатырох тысяч яўрэяў. У 1953 савецкія ўлады злачынна ўзарвалі Фарны касцёл.
У 1987 годзе да горада далучаны пасёлак Пабеданосны[14].
29 лістапада 1999 адбылося афіцыйнае зацверджанне гістарычнага герба Клецка[15]. 11 лістапада 2008 з ініцыятывы мясцовага святара Маскоўскага патрыярхату на помнік архітэктуры XVII ст., колішні касцёл дамініканцаў, паставілі пазалочаны купал-цыбуліну, што з’яўляецца грубым парушэннем дзейнага заканадаўства[16]. Нягледзячы на звароты грамадскасці ў пракуратуру[17], неўзабаве такія ж купалы паставілі над бакавымі вежамі. 25 снежня 2008 у Клецку адбылося ўрачыстае асвячэнне новага касцёла Найсвяцейшае Тройцы.
