Ко́брын[2] (трансліт.: Kobryn) — горад у Брэсцкай вобласці Беларусі, адміністрацыйны цэнтр Кобрынскага раёна, на сутоках Кобрынкі і Мухаўца. За 52 км ад Брэста. Чыгуначная станцыя на лініі Брэст — Гомель. Вузел аўтамабільных дарог на Мінск, Брэст, Пінск, Ковель, Маларыту.

У 1287 годзе ўпамінаецца з формай назвы Кобрынь, такая ж форма запісана і ў 1589 годзе[3].
Назва паселішча ўтвораная ад назвы ракі Кобрынкі (< Кобрына), на ўтоку якой у Мухавец паўстала паселішча. Гідронім балцкага (магчыма, яцвяжскага) паходжання. Найбліжэйшы аналаг — назва ракі Кобрына (варыянт: Кобрын), правага прытока Дняпра адразу на поўдні ад Кіева (пасля вусця ракі Стугны). Недалёка ад Кобрыны (цераз Дняпро) — рэчка з балцкай назвай Недра[4]. Гэта адзін з самых паўднёвых балцкіх гідронімаў. Назва *Kobr-in- ад літоўскага kobrinti, kūbrinti «ісці сагнуўшыся, пахіліўшыся». Корань Kobr- таксама ў прускім тапоніме Kobrun (назва лесу ў прускай Натангіі, засведчаная пад 1354 годзе)[5]. Гэтую мясцовую назву звязваюць з прускім kāubri, літоўскім kauburys, kūbrys «пагорак, узвышша» (супольная з kobrinti, kūbrinti семантыка звязаная з адхіленнем ад роўнага руху ці роўнай паверхні). Назва кобрынскай ракі тлумачыцца звілістасцю яе рэчышча. На беларускім Палессі распаўсюджаны балцкія тапонімы — Пінск, Лунінец, Жыткавічы, яны ўтвораныя ад адпаведных водных назваў.
Географ Вадзім Жучкевіч таксама згадвае ў якасці магчымай крыніцы таго ж паходжання літоўскае kobrinti «цяжка, стомлена ісці, цягнуцца». Але яго асноўная версія — што назва паходзіць ад вядомай з «Аповесці мінулых часоў» назвы племя обраў, а пачатковае К- называе ўстаўным гукам[6]. Обры — відазмененая назва авараў, з якімі з VI стагоддзя н.э. змагалася славянскае племя дулебаў, што былі сярод продкаў сучасных чэхаў[7]. Існуюць таксама кельцкая (Юзаф Сташэўскі) і славянская (Алег Трубачоў) версіі паходжання назвы, якія згадвае Вадзім Жучкевіч[8].
Першы пісьмовы ўспамін пра Кобрын як уладанне князёў уладзіміра-валынскіх змяшчаецца ў Іпацьеўскім летапісе і датуецца 1287 годам:
Се аз, князь Володимер, сын Васильков, внук Романов, пишу грамоту: дал есмь княгине своей, по своем животе город свой Кобрынь и с людьми, и с данью, како при мне даяли, тако и по мне ать дають княгине моей… Іпацьеўскі летапіс |
У пачатку XIV стагоддзя паселішча далучылася да Вялікага Княства Літоўскага. З 1366 года Кобрын знаходзіўся ва ўладанні вялікага князя Альгерда. На працягу XIV ст. на месцы старажытнага дзядзінца і пасада збудавалі драўляныя замкі (існавалі да канца XVIII стагоддзя)[9]. У 1404 годзе горад стаў сталіцай княства, што знаходзілася ва ўладанні Рамана Ратненскага, пачынальніка роду князёў Кобрынскіх. Пад 1465 годам упершыню згадваецца Спаскі манастыр. У першай палове XVI стагоддзя ў горадзе збудавалі касцёл[9].
У 1519 годзе Кобрын стаў цэнтрам староства, а ў 1520 годзе — сталіцай павета Падляшскага ваяводства. З 1532 года горад знаходзіўся ва ўладанні каралевы і вялікай княгіні Боны Сфорца, за якой юрыдычна аформілася Кобрынская эканомія і пачаліся меліярацыйныя работы (канал каралевы Боны)[9]. Станам на 1563 год, паводле рэвізіі, у Кобрыне было 377 двароў; асноўныя вуліцы — Астрамецкая, Балоцкая, Брэсцкая, Пінская, Ратненская, Чаравачыцкая[10]; дзейнічалі касцёл, 3 праваслаўныя царквы, Спаскі манастыр[11]. Згодна з адміністрацыйна-тэрытарыяльнай рэформай (1565—1566) горад страціў павятовы статус і ўвайшоў у склад Берасцейскага павета Берасцейскага ваяводства.
У 1586 годзе Кобрын перайшоў да каралевы-ўдавы і вялікай княгіні Ганны Ягелонкі, дачкі Боны Сфорцы і Жыгімонта Старога, якая адрознівалася актыўнасцю ў палітычных і гаспадарчых справах. 10 снежня 1589 года яна надала гораду магдэбургскае права, каб стымуляваць развіццё рамёстваў і гандлю і павялічыць даходнасць гарадской гаспадаркі, а таксама пячатку і герб: «у срэбным полі выява святых Ганны і Марыі з немаўлём Ісусам на руках»[12]. У 1589 годзе Ганна Ягелонка асабіста прыбыла ў горад і ўрачыста ўручыла жыхарам прывілей, падпісаны нядаўна абраным каралём Жыгімонтам ІІІ Вазам (1587—1632). Кобрын меў магдэбургскае права да 1766 года. У 1596 годзе Спаскі манастыр прыняў унію[11].
У пачатку XVII ст. у Кобрыне было больш за 1,5 тыс. жыхароў, каля 500 дамоў[10]. Станам на 1597 год горад складаўся з асноўнай тэрыторыі і Замухавецкага прадмесця, налічваў 550 сядзібных участкаў. У цэнтры была рыначная плошча з ратушай і 32 участкамі забудовы[11]. У 1626 годзе адбыўся Кобрынскі сабор[10], пры Спаскім манастыры адкрылася школа[11].
У 2-й палове XVII — пачатку XVIII стагоддзя Кобрын значна пацярпеў ад ваенных канфліктаў і прыйшоў у заняпад. У верасні 1648 года казацкія атрады акружылі Кобрын і разбілі харугву стольніка Вінцэнта Корвін Гасеўскага, практычна ўвесь горад быў спалены. У сярэдзіне XVII стагоддзя ў горадзе налічвалася каля 1700 жыхароў, 478 дамоў.
З-за страты эканамічнага значэння ў 1766 годзе яго перавялі ў разрад мястэчак[13]. У 1784 годзе тут знаходзіўся кароль і вялікі князь Станіслаў Аўгуст Панятоўскі, які накіроўваўся на адкрыццё Каралеўскага канала. Станам на 1790 год у Кобрыне было 2160 жыхароў і 360 дамоў[11]. У 1791 годзе Кобрын зноў стаў сталіцай павета. 14 верасня 1794 года расійскія войскі Аялксандра Суворава разбілі пад Дзівінам перадавыя аддзелы паўстанцаў Тадэвуша Касцюшкі і занялі горад.
У выніку трэцяга падзелу Рэчы Паспалітай (1795) Кобрын апынуўся ў складзе Расійскай імперыі, дзе стаў цэнтрам павета[13]. Імператрыца расійская Кацярына II падаравала колішні магдэбургскі горад Сувораву.
У вайну 1812 года 27 ліпеня пад Кобрынам расійскія войскі здабылі першую перамогу над арміяй Напалеона. Станам на 1817 год тут было 326 будынкаў, з іх 4 камяніцы. У 1845 годзе гораду даравалі новы, расійскі герб. У 1882 годзе пачаўся рух на лініі Палескай чыгункі Пінск — Жабінка, у Кобрыне з’явілася чыгуначная станцыя. У 1895 годзе пажар знішчыў трэць горада. У пачатку XX стагоддзя ў Кобрыне было 25 камяніц і 1202 драўляныя будынкі, дзейнічалі 2 праваслаўныя царквы, касцёл, сінагога і некалькі яўрэйскіх малітоўных школ, павятовае вучылішча, прыходскае вучылішча з жаночай зменай, прыватнае жаночае 1-класнае вучылішча, яўрэйскае жаночае вучылішча і некалькі хедараў.
У 1915 годзе Кобрын быў акупаваны нямецкімі войскамі, а ў 1919 годзе заняты польскай арміяй. Згодна з Рыжскім мірным дагаворам (1921) Кобрын апынуўся ў складзе міжваеннай Польскай Рэспублікі, дзе стаў цэнтрам павета Палескага ваяводства.
Пасля пачатку Другой сусветнай вайны ў 1939 годзе Кобрын увайшоў у БССР, дзе ў 1940 годзе стаў цэнтрам раёна. З 23 чэрвеня 1941 года да 20 ліпеня 1944 года горад знаходзіўся пад нямецкай акупацыяй. Падчас вайны немцы ўчынілі генацыд яўрэйскага насельніцтва горада, якое складала тады 70 % жыхароў. У паваенны перыяд горад бурна развіваецца, хутка расце насельніцтва. У 1959 годзе ў горадзе было 13,7 тысяч жыхароў, у 1970 годзе — 24,9 тысяч жыхароў.
У ліпені 2024 года вуліца Каліноўскага была перайменавана мясцовым Саветам дэпутатаў у вуліцу Пятра Машэрава, для гэтага існуючую вуліцу Пятра Машэрава перайменавалі ў вуліцу Яловую[14]. Перайменаванне адбылося ў межах чарговай хвалі русіфікацыі, пачатай рэжымам Лукашэнкі пасля палітычнага крызісу 2020 года[15].
Прадпрыемствы машынабудаўнічай, харчовай, лёгкай прамысловасці, вытворчасці будаўнічых матэрыялаў. Гасцініцы «Беларусь», «Сувораў». Кобрын — цэнтр турызму нацыянальнага значэння.
Дзейнічаюць 2 бібліятэкі, кінатэатр, дом культуры, Кобрынскі ваенна-гістарычны музей імя А. В. Суворава.
У Кобрыне працуюць Кобрынскі дзяржаўны політэхнічны каледж, 8 сярэдніх, гімназія, музычная і спартыўная школы, пачатковая школа — дзіцячы садок, школа-інтэрнат, установы дадатковай адукацыі. Працуюць 14 дзіцячых садоў.
Медыцынскія паслугі аказвае гарадская бальніца, паліклініка, дзіцячыя бальніца і паліклініка.
Планаванне і забудова Кобрына маюць шматвекавую гісторыю. Ля месца ўпадзення рэчкі Кобрынкі ў Мухавец у старажытнасці заклалі першае ўмацаванне, на якім пазней збудавалі Верхні і Ніжні замкі. У канцы XVIII — XIX стагоддзях цэнтр Кобрына забудоўваўся цаглянымі двухпавярховымі жылымі дамамі, ніжнія паверхі якіх прызначаліся для крам і майстэрань.
